History of Powers Law

After working for top-tier international law firms, John Powers launched Powers Law (Law Firm of John Powers, PLLC) in 2010 to provide a cost-effective and nimble but thorough alternative for those needing representation. Powers Law has represented clients throughout the world and the U.S., with a focus on the home state of Arizona.

About John Powers

John Powers is an Arizona native with fourteen years of experience representing clients in business transactions and litigation, real estate transactions, contract drafting, and general civil matters. John’s business practice is focused primarily on corporate transactions, contracts, real estate, general business law, and disputes. Clients include public companies, small and midsize businesses, family offices, individuals, entrepreneurs, athletes, and non-profits in transactions and litigation. John also regularly counsels clients with regard to civil matters including employment, tort, and contract disputes. He serves as a Senior Adviser to the New York-based Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) founded by Dwight D. Eisenhower.

John was drafted by the San Diego Padres in 1996 and played eight years of professional baseball – six before law school and two during – in the San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, and Texas Rangers organizations. He is the only person to play professional baseball full-time while simultaneously attending law school full-time.

John Powers founded Powers Law to provide quick-response, high-caliber, cost-efficient, custom-tailored legal representation for clients. Contracts govern relationships among individuals, entrepreneurs, employees, executives, family offices, companies, businesses, non-profits, trusts, and other third parties.   • Represented multinational corporation in a breach of contract dispute with a foreign supplier, negotiated a settlement agreement that included an equity investment in the supplier’s company, leading to fruitful business partnership.
  • Represented foreign company in negotiations with US-based investment firm regarding a joint venture agreement, resolved cultural differences in contracts, leveraged parties’ strengths.
  • Represented U.S. company in a cross-border merger and acquisition transaction, identified and resolved regulatory issues across multiple jurisdictions, conducted successful closing and integration
  • Advised a tech startup on a Series A funding, negotiating with multiple investors and helping the client secure the funding for growth.
  • Represented a founder in sale of her company to a competitor, held out longer than other similarly situated companies in order to maximize purchase price – handled due diligence to purchase agreement and closing.
